Cascade Series User Manual

Thank you for choosing the Altreon Cascade Series Level 2 Portable EV Charger. Please read this manual before use and keep it for future reference.

1. Product Overview

The Cascade Series is a portable Level 2 EV charger designed for home and on-the-go use. It plugs directly into a standard NEMA 14-50 outlet — no hard-wiring required — and delivers up to 7.6 kW of charging power. The Cascade is available in two cable lengths and two connector types:

  • Cascade (NACS): 16.5 ft (5 m) cable, NACS vehicle connector
  • Cascade (J1772): 16.5 ft (5 m) cable, J1772 vehicle connector
  • Cascade XL (NACS): 30 ft (9 m) cable, NACS vehicle connector
  • Cascade XL (J1772): 30 ft (9 m) cable, J1772 vehicle connector

All Cascade Series models carry an IP66 enclosure rating, meaning they are protected against dust ingress and powerful water jets from any direction.

3. What's in the Box

  • NEMA 14-50P input plug (attached to cable)
  • Protective carrying case
  • Quick start guide

4. Before You Begin

4.1 Outlet Requirements

The Cascade Series requires a NEMA 14-50 outlet (240 V, 50 A rated). Verify that your outlet is properly grounded and rated for continuous 32 A load before plugging in. If you are unsure about your outlet or wiring, consult a qualified electrician. Altreon EV does not specify electrical installation requirements beyond confirming outlet compatibility.

4.2 Vehicle Compatibility

  • Cascade NACS — connects to any vehicle with a NACS charging port (including Tesla vehicles).
  • Cascade J1772 — connects to any vehicle with a J1772 (Type 1) charging inlet.

If your vehicle connector type does not match your charger, the Altreon Bridge Series Adapter can bridge NACS and J1772 for AC Level 1 and Level 2 charging. See Bridge Series User Manual for details. The Bridge Adapter is not compatible with DC fast charging.

5. Setup & First Use

  1. Inspect the charging cable and plug for any visible damage before each use. Do not use if damaged.
  2. Make sure the NEMA 14-50 outlet is de-energized or that your hands are dry before handling the plug.
  3. Insert the NEMA 14-50P plug firmly into your outlet until it seats fully.
  4. Connect the vehicle-end connector (NACS or J1772) to your vehicle's charging port. You will hear or feel a click when the connector is properly seated.
  5. Charging begins automatically. Refer to your vehicle's display or app to monitor charging progress.
  6. When charging is complete or you wish to stop, end the charging session on your vehicle first (if required by your vehicle), then remove the connector from the vehicle port, and finally unplug the NEMA 14-50P from the outlet.

6. Outdoor Use

The Cascade Series carries an IP66 rating, which means it is protected against dust and powerful water jets. It can be used outdoors in rain. That said, follow these guidelines for safe outdoor operation:

  • Do not submerge the charger or plug in standing water.
  • Ensure the NEMA 14-50 outlet used outdoors is protected by a weatherproof cover rated for wet locations.
  • Do not use if the cable, plug, or connector housing shows cracks, cuts, or other physical damage.
  • Store the charger indoors or in a dry enclosure when not in use for extended periods.
  • Operating temperature range is –4 °F to 122 °F (–20 °C to 50 °C). Do not use outside this range.

7. Cable Handling & Storage

  • Coil the cable loosely — do not kink, crimp, or tightly wind it around objects.
  • Do not run the cable under rugs, through doorways, or in any way that compresses it.
  • Keep the cable away from heat sources, sharp edges, and vehicle tires.
  • Always grasp the connector body to plug and unplug — never pull the cable by the cord itself.
  • After use, wipe connectors with a dry cloth before storing.
  • Store the cable at room temperature when possible. Prolonged storage below –4 °F (–20 °C) may affect cable flexibility.

8. LED Status Indicator

The Cascade Series features an LED indicator. Refer to the following general guide (exact behavior may vary by production revision):

LED State Meaning
Solid green Charging in progress
Blinking green Standby / vehicle connected, not charging
No light Not powered or not connected to outlet
Blinking or solid amber/red Fault detected — see Troubleshooting

9. Using a Bridge Series Adapter

If your vehicle connector type does not match the Cascade model you own, the Altreon Bridge Series Adapter can be used for AC Level 1 and Level 2 charging only. Attach the adapter to the vehicle-end connector before connecting to your vehicle. Do not force a connection. The adapter is not rated for DC fast charging or Supercharger use.

  • J1772 to NACS adapter: Use this to charge a NACS vehicle with a Cascade J1772 charger.
  • NACS to J1772 adapter: Use this to charge a J1772 vehicle with a Cascade NACS charger.

See the Bridge Series User Manual for adapter IP ratings, operating temperatures, and handling instructions.

10. Troubleshooting

Symptom Possible Cause Action
Charger does not power on Outlet not energized; loose plug connection Confirm outlet has power; reseat NEMA 14-50P plug firmly
Vehicle does not begin charging Connector not fully seated; vehicle charge session not initiated Remove and reinsert vehicle connector until it clicks; check vehicle charging settings
Charging stops unexpectedly Outlet tripped breaker; vehicle reached charge limit; temperature out of range Check outlet circuit breaker; check vehicle charge limit settings; verify ambient temperature is within –4 °F to 122 °F
LED shows fault (amber/red) Ground fault, over-temperature, or wiring issue Unplug from outlet, wait 60 seconds, and reconnect. If fault persists, stop use and contact support.
Connector difficult to remove from vehicle Vehicle lock engaged End the charging session on your vehicle before removing the connector
Cable feels warm Normal during charging at 32 A Ensure cable is not coiled or compressed during use; if excessively hot, stop use and contact support
