How Our Quality Standards Shaped the Altreon Product Line

The Lesson That Started It All

Every company has a moment that defines how they operate going forward. For us, that moment came before we ever shipped a charger—when a batch of early units taught us the difference between what works on paper and what holds up in the real world.

We had sourced our first batch of Level 1 EV chargers through a third-party supplier. On the surface, the specs checked out: 16-amp output, NEMA 5-15P plug, weather-resistant housing. It looked like a reliable home-use charger. But one detail gave us pause: the 5-15P plug is only rated for 15 amps. Pairing it with a 16-amp charger might pass a basic inspection, but electrically, it leaves zero margin for safety.

Over time, that kind of mismatch can lead to overheating at the outlet, melted plastic, or total failure. Especially in garages, driveways, or other exposed locations. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) warns against exceeding current ratings on standard household plugs. Yet it’s still common to find 16-amp chargers wired with 15-amp connectors sold by large retailers.

When we brought our concerns to the supplier, the response was dismissive. They cited “no complaints” from other buyers. That might work for someone selling thousands of units with no accountability. It didn’t work for us.

How We Responded

We pulled the entire shipment and absorbed the cost. We cut ties with the supplier—and the sourcing agency that introduced us. The charger we had planned to launch as our first product—something we’d named the Ripple Series—was scrapped before it ever went public.

Instead, we rewrote our process from the ground up:

  • We work directly with vetted vendors—no middlemen, no blind shipments.
  • We use third-party inspectors on-site during production.
  • We test every batch in-house before anything ships out.

This wasn’t about perfection—it was about responsibility. If we’re going to sell gear that people rely on to power their vehicles, it has to meet more than just baseline requirements. It has to hold up under real use, for real people, in real conditions.

What Came Next

The Brook and Cascade chargers were born from that experience. They weren’t rebrands or spec upgrades—they were complete redesigns focused on safety, plug compatibility, durability, and ease of use. No apps. No confusing interfaces. Just simple, dependable charging—built right the first time.

You’ll never see the Ripple Series on our site. That’s not an oversight—it’s a promise. One we made to ourselves, and to our customers, before we ever shipped a single unit.

We don’t assume the specs tell the whole story. We verify, we test, and we own the results. That’s the standard we carry forward.
